University Essentials by a Food Science Student

The new academic year is starting pretty soon *screams*. I don't know about you but I'm always curious about students from different faculties.

For this little series, I interviewed my friends from university majors.

Most of us are doing online school now, including myself. Since online classes started last semester, most of their responses involved an online school routine.

Today's blog features the essentials by a Food Science student.

Background Information:

She's 21 years old this year and we've known each other for 8 years already *gasps*.

Having studied Food Science in polytechnic, she started her university journey as a Year Two. She didn't join any CCA because the available CCAs are "so sad". However, she participates in weekly external fitness classes with her friends like Spin Class and F45 (of course, before the Covid-19 prevention measures were put in place).

Fun fact: In secondary school, she swore that she would never wear makeup. Well...Guess that changed.

What is studying in your course like?

"Very busy. But there's a good balance between exams, projects and lab work in the different trimesters"

Among everyone I know, her schedule is the busiest. Instead of semesters, her academic year is in trimesters, and her timetable is allocated by her school. She's one of the few people I know who had school, while the rest of us were on holidays *pats her head if she reads this HAHA*.

All of her classes start at 9am and end the latest by 6pm.

Study Materials:

Planner + Stationery

"It helps me organise my life".

She uses a physical planner which she bought on Shopee for roughly SGD$15. A planner helps her to keep track of assignments, deadlines and exams. Usually, she lists down tasks to do in a day.

Pro-tip: To reduce time spent decorating her planner, she chose a planner that already included designs.

Laptop

She keeps a digital copy of her notes and prints them out when she needs to write on them. Initially, both of us used OneNote for our notes. "It's good, but it's not the best." We're still trying out different apps to figure out which suits our study needs.

She rarely uses a notebook now, unless it's for her lab.

Skincare Routine + Essentials:

She introduced her whole skincare collection to me. Like me, you'll probably realise that she is a huge Innisfree fan. To ease your visualisation because of the number of products stated, here's a diagram of her skincare routines.

Morning:

On a normal school morning, she starts by washing her face with just water. Her routine is composed of products she swears by. Following this order, she uses the Innisfree Volcano Pore Toner 2xGreen Tea Seed SerumL'Occitane Aqua Réotier Ultra Thirst-Quenching Gel, and lastly, an Innisfree Sunblock (she didn't specify which sunscreen because she doesn't think it's the best).

Night:

On some nights, she does a 10-step routine but this changes depending on her mood.

She starts with cleansing and exfoliates with the Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask or the Skinfood Strawberry Sugar Mask. Afterwards, she'll apply her serum, a mask, eye cream and end off her routine with a Vitamin A Cream.

Favourite Products:

Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum

This is the only serum she loves and she's almost done with her third bottle (probably fourth by now). It's not too heavy and doesn't make her face too oily. It provides good hydration without leaving the skin feeling tacky.

Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patches

During our mini interview. she started explaining the science behind the ingredients.

I love these patches, but she made me fall in love with them even more. Both of us stock up on these patches now. She claims that these patches are one of her favourite skincare discoveries. So, whenever you're breaking out, just pop on some of these patches on your pimple.

Innisfree Skin Clinic Hyaluronic Mask

She switched from the My Real Squeeze series to the Skin Clinic collection because it's way better. This hydrates and balances out the hydration on different areas of her face.

L'Occitane Aqua Réotier Ultra Thirst-Quenching Gel

She loves this gel. She finds it lightweight enough to layer other products on top of it, which is crucial in Singapore's weather.

Makeup Routine + Essentials:

Disclaimer: Since everything is home-based learning now, she doesn't wear makeup.

Her everyday makeup routine consists of cushion, powder, eyebrows and lipstick. On days where she has a presentation, she'll apply some mascara.

Favourites:

Innisfree Go-To Cushion Foundation

She purchases the refills since this literally her go-to cushion foundation. The design makes the product hygienic to use and minimises exposure. Plus, she finds it easier to control the amount of product. The only downside is how bulky the cushion is as she says it's bigger than the other Innisfree foundation ranges.

Innisfree No Sebum Primer

She introduced the Innisfree No Sebum Primer to me, and I love it. Till now, she's a loyal user of this primer.

Peripera Airy Stick

"Peripera has won my heart."

She finds this lipstick comfortable on the lips. She likes the formula and appreciates how it doesn't look tacky. On a sidenote, I think she may have a little obsession with Peripera ever since she found the brand.

There are many other products that she loves, but this is the summarised version. I hope this was a fun little read. It was quite interesting to me to find out what my friends use.

Stay tuned for the upcoming posts cause I interviewed more people from other faculties.
