Kooks Creamery | Let's Eat

Who doesn’t love warm freshly baked cookies served together ice cream? Today, I tried out an Instagram worthy dessert, which is the molten lava cookie served with ice cream at Kooks Creamery.

Kooks creamery offers a molten cookie set that includes their signature cookie and a scoop of ice cream of your choice. If you're a fan of the ice cream or cookie alone, you can purchase the cookie and ice cream individually. [Single ice cream scoops costs $3.50, while double ice cream scoops costs $6 and triple scoops cost $8.40. Special flavours cost an additional $0.50. The cookie alone costs $5]

For the cookie and ice cream combo, each set costs SGD$8.50 each. The cookie base is either the signature chocolate molten lava cookie or the matcha molten lava cookie. They offer a range of flavours like speculoos, Thai milk tea, raspberry lychee, rum and raisin, etc. Adding an additional scoop of ice cream costs $2.40.

I came with my friends and we decided to try out the cookie and ice cream set. We ordered both chocolate and matcha molten lava cookies to try out.

The waiting time was actually quite fast although the cookies were freshly baked. It took about 15 minutes for both of our orders to come.

For the matcha molten lava cookie, I chose to add the speculoos ice cream because I am a huge fan of cookie butter. They even sprinkled crushed speculoos on the side, which is delightful.

This was actually quite a good combination. The speculoos ice cream was quite subtle and it wasnt overtly sweet. I didnt taste much of the molten matcha actually, it didn't have a strong matcha taste to it.

For the Chocolate molten lava cookie, my friend chose the thai milk tea flavor. On the side, they sprinkled some cereal.

Personally, I feel that the combination of thai milk tea ice cream and chocolate cookie didnt work out too well. The thai milk tea ice cream overpowered the taste of the cookie, so all I could really taste was the thai milk tea flavour. I've seen quite a number of people order the Brown Butter ice cream flavour together with it, so maybe that could be a better option.

If I were to buy the Thai milk tea ice cream again, I would choose to have it as a scoop alone, rather than ordering it with the cookie.

Overall experience:

The size of the cookie was actually quite small and the molten lava was limited. The cookies were also quite soft. Surprisingly, everything wasn’t too sweet. My friend is actually quite picky when it comes to food and she doesn’t like sweet stuff, but she has approved this. It did hurt my throat afterwards - but, that's cause I had two cookies LOL.

Would I pay $8.50?

Personally, no. $6.50-$7 seems more worth it. This is definitely something you could replicate at home if you master it well. I think that the ice cream is quite worth it if you choose to  purchase it separately, because they have unique flavours. Their seasonal flavours , which are super interesting like Salted Egg Yolk and Pineapple Tart, are available in February for the CNY period. If  you're having a bad day, or if you have a sudden sweet craving, you could definitely check this place out.

We came on a Wednesday afternoon, so it wasn’t crowded. The place itself is quite small, so coming here during off-peak hours would be a better choice. It was quite easy to find the place. It's opposite the Serangoon Sports Complex and it's a short walk from the bus stop (63361). After you get off the bus and alight at the bus stop, just turn left and if you see a coffee shop, you're on the right track.

Kooks Creamery:
Address: 211 Serangoon Avenue 4, #01-02, 550211

Opening Hours: 12pm-10pm, Tuesday to Sunday

They also provide water for free and some boards for your instagram photos. On a scale of 1-10 on the instagram worthiness, I would rate it a 7. I did prefer the molten matcha lava cookie compared to the chocolate one.
