K-Beauty Battle #3: COSRX vs Nature Republic - Centella Edition

Welcome back to another K-Beauty Battle. Today's battle will be between the Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream and the Nature Republic Centella Lime Scar Ointment.

What Is Centella?

Before we begin, here's a little background information on the main ingredient of these products - Centella. Centella Asiatica is a popular extract used in many skincare products today as it serves to truce blemishes and gets rid of acne scars.

It is an annual herb rich in amino acids, fatty acids, phytochemicals and beta carotene. Centella Asiatica is often used to treat minor wounds as it is able to speed up the healing process, boost anti-oxidants on the affected area, strengthen the skin and increase the blood supply to the wounded area. This is why Centella Asiatica is a popular ingredient in products used to help acne victims.

Nature Republic Centella Scar Ointment

The Nature Republic Centella Scar Ointment is supposed to heal scars and blemishes supplementally. It is used on sensitive skin, dry skin and even slight wounds. The recommended usage is 1-2 times a day.

Each product is 30g and it comes in a small squeeze tube bottle which is compact enough to bring it around. Most online prices are roughly SGD$30, but there are little information and reviews available.

For the ingredients, based on the CosDNA website, there are quite a number of harmful ingredients.

Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream

The Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream is a non-oily cream designed to calm and reduce the size of scars from repeated trouble and blemishes. It is suitable for sensitive skin and acne prone skin. The recommended usage is twice a day, after cleansing, toning and applying a serum.

Each product is 30ml and online prices range around $15-$17.

Compared to the Nature Republic product, the Cosrx cream has lesser harmful ingredients.

Comparison

Texture:
The Nature Republic Ointment is more gel-like, while the Centella Blemish Cream is thicker and more cream like.

Scent:
The Nature Republic Ointment smells like lime when you’re smelling it from the bottle itself, because it’s supposed to be both Centella and Lime together. However, when my friend smelled it after it i applied it onto my hands, she didn’t like it cause there was a weird smell.  The Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream smelled like an old ointment I used to apply when I was a child. It smelled like “Zambuk” and if anyone knows what i’m talking about, Zambuk is often applied after you have mosquito bites, itching and rashes.

My Thoughts & Opinion:
Honestly, i’m just going to say it upfront. The Cosrx Centella Cream cannot be compared to the Nature Republic Ointment. The Cosrx Centella cream worked so much better and faster. If you’re looking for a product that clears your acne scars and blemishes, I highly highly highly highly highly recommend the Centella Blemish Cream from Cosrx.

I was really bothered by these bumps on my forehead and some acne scars. No matter what I did, the bumps always remained so I went to see what products should I use.

The Nature Republic Ointment was the first product I used. I applied it at night, and during the day when the bumps looked really obvious. Honestly, it only made my face appear really oily after using it. I used it for several days in a row but, it didn’t work out.

The Cosrx Centella Cream on the other hand, really amazed me. After the first night of using it, i could really tell that one of my acne scars have faded. After using it for several days in a row, the bumps have also faded. I really recommend this product if you’re having the same problems as I am. My sister has also tried out the Centella Blemish Cream from Cosrx, and she really likes it.

So, in summary, if you’re planning to get a Centella product, i highly recommend the Cosrx. It’s much more affordable, but even more effective. There’s quite a substantial amount of product inside although it’s a small bottle.

That's all for today's post and I hope it was useful for you.

Till the next post!
